Rabies Vaccine

The rabies vaccine is a crucial preventative measure, administered either before or after potential exposure to the rabies virus, and is typically given as an injection, with a series of doses over a period of weeks.

Pre-exposure: 3 doses 

0 day, 7 days and 21 or 28 days

Post-exposure: 5 doses

0 day, 3 days, 7 days, 21 days, 28 days

Pre-exposure: 3 doses

Day 0, 7 & 21 or 28

Post-exposure: 5 doses

Day 0,3,7,14 & 28

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

0.5 mL Intramuscularly (IM)

Pre-exposure

*  Primary injections 3 doses (D0, D7, D21 or D28)

*  1st booster injection: 1 year later

*  Subsequent booster injection: every 5 years

Post-exposure

*  Non-immunized: 5 doses (DO,D3,D7,D14,and D28)

*  Vaccination within the last 5 years (with a cell culture rabies vaccine: 2 doses (DO, D3)

*  Vaccination more than 5 years ago or incomplete vaccination: 5 doses (D0, D3, D7, D14, and D28 with RIG administration if necessary)

1 mL Intramuscularly (IM)

Pre-exposure

*  booster dose 1 year later, thereafter, on injection every 5 years

*  Less than 5 years of injection for each DO and D3
