ADULT VACCINATION:
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination
AGE:
9 years old to 26 years old
DOSE AND INTERVAL:
9-14 years old -2 doses
15 years old and older -3 doses
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Intramuscularly (IM)
For 9-14 years, a 2-dose series is recommended
* Quadrivalent (4vHPV) or nonavalent (9vHPV) given at 0 and 6 months
* If the interval between the first and second dose is less than 6 months, a third dose is needed; the minimum interval between the second and third dose is months.
For ages 15 years and older, a 3-dose series is recommended
* Bivalent HPV (2vHPV), quadrivalent (4vHPV) or nonavalent (9vHPV) at 0, 2 and 6 months.
* The minimum interval between the first and the second dose is 1 month, and the minimum interval between the second and third dose is 3 months. the third should be given at least 6 months from the first dose.
* For males age 9-18 years, a 4vHPV and 9vHPV can be given for the prevention of anogenital warts and anal cancer.
HPV vaccination is not recommended for everyone older than 26 years.
* Some adults aged 27 through 45 years who were not already vaccinated might choose to get the HPV vaccine after speaking with their doctor about their risk for new HPV infections and the possible benefits of vaccination for them.
* HPV vaccination of adults provides less benefit, because more people in this age range were exposed to HPV already.
